This free-flowering annual is widely grown to attract wildlife and as a cut flower. The waxy glaucous leaves are flecked with white. Nodding pendulous clusters of dusky mauve and steely purple blooms appear in summer, followed by large black seeds. They can self-seed freely but not aggressively.
